TIME TO WAKE UP

People in Rajasthan are frequently sleeping on rooftops, because it’s cooler than inside. Many of them can’t afford air-conditioners in their homes and with temperatures rising as high as 50°C (122°F) it’s easy to see why spending the night outdoors is a much better idea. These houses are located just under the Mehrangarh Fort in the “Blue City” part of Jodhpur.

Taken with a DSLR and 85 mm lens, the photograph is reproduced on archival Canson Rag Photographique 310g Matte Paper. It can be also printed on Canson Photoart Pro Canvas 395g (the price is the same). It comes without a frame and without a white border (but if you need the white border, just send me an email). The size is approximately 16 x 24 inches (42 x 59,4 cm).

BATHING IN A STEPWELL

Toorji Ka Jhalara is a stepwell in Jodhpur. In the past, these stepwells ensured availability of water during the period of drought, but today they are only monuments to behold, or – as seen here – used as a pool. Most of this kind of stepwells are located in Rajasthan, the largest and dryest region of India – courtesy of the vast Thar Desert.

TRADITIONAL RAJASTHANI KITCHEN

I have taken this photograph near Jodhpur, India – in a village of the great Rajasthani Thar Desert. It depicts a young woman in her traditional kitchen, dressed in a sari of the same tones as the room around her. The fireplace is low on the ground – people in many Indian households also eat on the floor, they don’t use chairs and tables. With many cultures dissapearing due to the rising western style of living, I’m asking myself: how long will we still be able to witness such scenes?

Taken with a Nikon F100 and Kodak Ektar 100 (a film known for it’s fine grain and vibrant colors), the photograph is reproduced on archival Canson Rag Photographique 310g Matte Paper. It can be also printed on Canson Photoart Pro Canvas 395g (the price is the same). It comes without a frame and without a white border (but if you need the white border, just send me an email).
